Apple upgraded its MacBook Pro line Tuesday, improving battery life and adding faster processors. The changes are the first big revamp for the Cupertino computer maker's flagship line of notebooks since June.
The longest-lasting Mac notebook battery ever.
The 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models, at $1,799 and up, include Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and two graphics processors, one from Nvidia and one from Intel. Both sizes get an added hour or two of battery life: Apple says they will run eight to nine hours after a full charge. And you can also reference the tips to extend your iPod battery life, maybe you can make it longer than nine hours.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro gets 10 hours of battery life (up from seven), somewhat faster Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessors and an Nvidia graphics chip. Prices start at $1,199 for a notebook with a 2.4-gigahertz microprocessor and a 250-gigabyte hard drive, or $1,499 for a 2.66GHz chip and 320GB drive. Learn more about the battery>>
Powerful graphics, two ways.
MacBook Pro gives you more options for high-performance graphics, starting with the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor in the 13-inch model. It’s up to 80 percent faster than the previous generation and is even more energy-efficient for everyday tasks like writing email and surfing the web.3
The new 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models give you even more power for graphics-intensive 3D games and pro applications, and longer battery life for everyday tasks like checking email or surfing the web. Depending on which application you’re running, these models automatically switch between the blazingly fast discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M processor and power-efficient integrated Intel HD Graphics.
Even the keyboard is advanced.
The rigid aluminum keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers. The result? Pure typing bliss. The keyboard is also illuminated, so when you’re in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you’re typing.
Nothing but speed. And more speed.

The MacBook Pro lineup starts with advanced Intel Core 2 Duo processors running at up to 2.66GHz. And things only get faster from there. The 15- and 17-inch models now feature the latest Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors — the fastest dual-core processors on the market — which reach Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.33GHz. With up to 4MB of shared L2 or L3 cache, MacBook Pro runs applications up to 50 percent faster than before 5.
Burn DVDs superfast.
After editing and applying the finishing touches to your home movie masterpiece in iMovie and iDVD, use the ultrafast 8x SuperDrive on your MacBook Pro to burn it to DVD. And because the SuperDrive also writes to double-layer discs (DVDs with nearly 9GB of space), it’s great for backing up data. And you can also use this DVD burnner to burn DVD.
